Your Pentire Neighbourhood Guide

Welcome to Islas Surfhouse! Consider this your insiders guide to the magic of Pentire — all recommendations are a short walk from the front door.

Coastal Walks From the Doorstep

You’ve got three brilliant walks in three directions, all reachable in under 10 mins:

1. Fistral Beach

Newquay’s most iconic beach is just a short stroll away and dog-friendly all year round. Great for a relaxed walk, surf session, or a sandy game of fetch.

Easiest access is usually the steps down past Sea Spray cafe. The exception to this is when high tide is particularly high (spring tide). Then it can be easier to access the beach from along the top path (under the golf course) then down the dunes – as the steps might take you to ocean rather than than sand.

2. The Gannel Estuary

Peaceful, scenic, and full of wildlife — a lovely tidal estuary walk.

Low tide access: Turn left out of Hatfield Crescent, head down Pentire Crescent towards Hotel California. Look for wooden signposts to guide you to the water’s edge. Mind the tides! It’s only accessible at low tide (approx. 3 hours either side). Check tide times here.

May–November: Take the charming Fern Pit ferry across the Gannel to Crantock beach for just £1.40 (70p for kids). Open daily 9:30am–6pm (weather permitting). At low tide, a footbridge also becomes accessible. Fern Pitt Café also sells crab lines, beach games, and bait for anyone fancying a bit of bass fishing.

3. Pentire Headland

A slightly more rugged clifftop walk with stunning views over the Atlantic. Head up past Fistral for a breath of fresh sea air and panoramic photo spots.

Where to Eat & Drink

Newquay has a great food scene, and many options are within walking distance. For a full round-up, check out our Eating Out in Newquay guide.

Here are three top super local picks:

Fern Pit Café

Open May–November, this spot offers breakfast, lunch, and now weekend dinners with sunset cocktails. Great views, lovely food, and dog-friendly. Perfect before or after a Gannel walk.

Sea Spray Café

Perched above South Fistral with panoramic beach views. Dog-friendly and known for brunches, smoothies, and chilled vibes. Open Wednesday–Sunday (check hours in winter).

Lewinnick Lodge

A longer walk up Pentire Headland rewards you with an upscale pub vibe and stunning sea views. Dog-friendly in the bar area (not in the main restaurant). Great for a drink or dinner with a view.

**Tide Times Matter**

The Gannel estuary route and footbridge are tide-dependent, so always plan ahead:

Where can I grab milk?

The two big supermarkets (Sainsbury’s and Morrisons) are realistically a drive away. Book a delivery if you’re here without a car.

Spar on Tower road is 10 mins on foot and sells the essentials.
